For sale is an antique violin I purchased over 20 years ago in Prague while
teaching abroad with the University of Georgia. I do not know exactly how old
it is, but there is a label on the inside (see photos) that states in German
that it was repaired in 1932.
I had it looked at by the head of the music department at the university who
co-owns a musical instrument store in Atlanta. He had it looked at by his
luthier who repairs violins, and was told that it would appraise for $1200. It
comes with the original bow that needs restringing plus a new bow. It also
comes with the original case. This case is old and has some damage, but it is
interesting in how unique it is. It has what appears to be alligator skin. I
would not trust it to carry this precious instrument around, however, it will
be great for shipping it.
This professor at UGA had one of his world renowned Phd students try it out
and you can see the video of him playing it with the professor playing the
After the first 60 seconds or so where his student is tuning it they play
together and it is AMAZING! It is worth the wait :-) The violin has such a
rich, beautiful sound! Enjoy their performance with this truly one-of-a-kind
antique instrument. Happy bidding!
