1836 Antique Portable Melodeon Lap Organ, CW Eaton, Bristol, New Hampshire, in
travel box
Lap organ measures 28 3/8"" wide, 12 7/8" deep, and 7" tall when fully closed.
Wooden travel box measures 30" wide, 13 7/8" deep, 8 1/2" tall. Box does not
have key. There have been some bits of material added to the inside of the
travel box in order to help better protect the melodeon and there are two
strings wrapped around it in order to make it easier to put it in and take it
out of the box. These strings are not attached to the instrument at all.
There is a name and date (1836) inside the box but I can't make out the name.
Let me know if you have any ideas! The date does work for when these were being
made.

This is in as found condition. There are various cosmetic damages as seen in
photographs. When playing it you can get the right side to come up.
There are 29 white keys and 20 black keys.
All notes play but the second D from the left is very airy when being played
and the fourth C sounds muted a bit. This may be something that someone versed
in these instruments is capable of repairing but that person is not me. The
middle D key is split but still perfectly functional.
